CATHY BROWN
Cathy loves seeing a product come to life: from initial inspiration, to original or digital artwork, to the actual fabric with color and texture.
Cathy has gained a strong foundation of fabric construction through her experience starting with the basics at the Rhode Island School of Design, going on to work for a textile mill, and developing outdoor fabric in her current position at Bryant Industries. Her knowledge of fabric construction informs her decisions of selecting a specific quality reference to translate into a particular design.
Throughout her career Cathy has travelled to Europe, India, China, and Nepal, sourcing exciting new fabric qualities while identifying emerging trends. She was particularly inspired by the contrast between the beautiful pristine rugs produced by local artisans and the chaotic streets of Nepal.
Cathy believes in the following formula for success:
Encouraging strengths of individual teammates + strengths of the team as a whole + strong technical skills + attention to detail = innovative design delivered on time.
Her lifelong love of color and pattern, paired with industry experience, led Cathy to create Modern Archive, a creative outlet made manifest in a small-scale online boutique. She offers thoughtfully designed and ethically sourced goods: works of art that give back to the craftspeople who made them while simultaneously satisfying customer needs. Her ultimate goal is to create kind design through ethical, sustainable, and chemical-free sources.
